WTF? what are the police for?

In a nasty caste clash between two groups of ‘future lawyers’ (students of  the Ambedkar Law college) in Chennai, two were seriously injured. For once, the police force was on time before the riots gathered momentum and did nothing to stop the fight. The reason being, they were waiting for principal’s permission.

Yes, agreed. By the books, police force is not supposed to enter the college premises unless the principal calls them or give the permission. But, is it right to wait for the prinicpal’s permission and watch the riots? I guess not! Who would be held responsible if the clash gets out of control, by the time permission is obtained? and the most irritating part with incidents like these is that the principal gets suspended and a few police officers get suspended/transferred. Nothing more happens after that!

In general, the police department does not have a good reputation amongst the masses, barring a handful of officials. Incidents like these will not do anything good to their reputation.
